7 Card Stud Poker

7 Card Stud Poker - The Deal

In 7 Card Stud poker, the house dealer starts the game by giving each player one card face down, beginning from his left. After that, he or she carries on dealing each player a second down card and finishes by giving each 7 Card Stud poker player a third card face up (this last one is also known as the "door" card). It is very important to pay attention to and remember the door cards, since they give you a great deal of information about what decisions you can make on how to proceed with your own hand. Let's take the following example - if you have a pair of sevens with a five and you see that two of your opponents have a seven as their door card, your pair is considerably weaker than it would be if there were no sevens showing. This is the most important thing you have to follow when you play 7 Card Stud poker - always pay attention to the cards around the table, you even have to look at them before you look at what cards you have yourself.

7 Card Stud Poker - Openers

In 7 Card Stud poker, either the lowest, or the highest face-up card is obliged to make the initial wager which is equal to the low end of the game limit that you are playing. For instance, if you are in a $1-4 7 Card Stud poker game, the opener must be for at least $1. However, this is not a standard rule, and a lot of casinos start with a 50-cent opener. Typical for Las Vegas is that the lowest card opens the game but if there is an ante, then the highest card has to open. And one last thing to remember - you don't always have to open with the minimum amount required - you can also start off with a raise if you so desire, but you must begin the betting.

7 Card Stud Poker - Level Of Play

It may not surprise anybody that the big 7 Card Stud poker games attract the big players. Every beginner or bad player can and most certainly will get eaten alive by the sharks at the $100-$200. Furthermore, they will not learn much in the process. Always remember that 7 Card Stud poker is a game of skill and overestimating yours will cost you some money.

7 Card Stud Poker - Different Games, Different Strategies

When stealing the Ante in 7 Card Stud poker becomes a worthwhile proposition, this also increases the speed and intensity of play. If this happens, you will be required to make a shift in your playing strategy. What is especially difficult for 7 Card Stud poker players is to make the transition to the higher betting limits precisely because of the occurance of this change. This is probaly the main reason why it is recommendable to play for free first, so you can practice some of the strategies you have. This way you can get better and no change of gameplay will be an obstacle for you.
